The 3rd edition of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS®-IIIUK) retains its well-known and outstanding features, but has now been updated to reflect current cultural and societal norms.

WAIS®-IIIUK Scale Organisation:
The WAIS®-IIIUK includes the eleven subtests from the WAIS-R plus three new subtests. Furthermore, it now provides two sets of summary scores. The subtests can be organised in a traditional manner into the Verbal IQ, Performance IQ and Global IQ Scores:
- VERBAL - Vocabulary, Similarities, Arithmetic, Digit Span, Information, Comprehension, Letter-Number, Sequencing.
- PERFORMANCE - Picture Completion, Digit Symbol-Coding, Block Design, Matrix Reasoning, Picture Arrangement, Symbol Search, Object Assembly.
The WAIS®-IIIUK also provides a grouping of the subtests based on more refined domains of cognitive functioning:
- VERBAL COMPREHENSION - Vocabulary, Similarities, Information
- PERCEPTUAL ORGANISATION - Picture Completion, Block Design, Matrix Reasoning
- WORKING MEMORY - Arithmetic, Digit Span, Letter-Number Sequencing
- PROCESSING SPEED - Digit Symbol-Coding, Symbol Search.
Reliability Information
Average reliability coefficient: FSIQ 0.98 Test-retest reliability: FSIQ 0.96 Inter-rater reliability: e.g. 0.95 (Vocabulary)
The Wechsler ability tests are restricted to Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists and Psychologists with a relevant PhD. Other psychologists in training can have access to the tests only under the supervision of an appropriately qualified Psychologist. Under no circumstances should other professionals be given access to the Wechsler materials.
